“120 Million people in Pakistan live below $2 per day & 30 Million below $1 per day.” These thought provoking stats are mentioned on Empower Pakistan Facebook page. Empower Pakistan is an NGO which will try to provide people a better living in Pakistan.

They have started their journey through a 2 month course on Freelancing. This is a non-profit course which aims to empower youth with the tools to properly market their skills and benefit from them. As the organizers rightly said and I quote, “Each one of you will be the source of income for 10-12 other families. Empowering you will mean empowering 12 other families. This is what we are trying to do.”

Did you know that freelancing can be your gateway to a start-up? A freelancer who started alone can make his own agencies and a separate company out of it. But what is freelancing? Freelancing is a way of working on multiple projects with multiple companies in short span of time. A regular job which will give you the same kind of experience in years can only be achieved in months through freelancing. You are free to choose your own rates and hours. Now who can do that with a regular job?

The session spanned two hours with three short presentations from the Empower Pakistan organizers. The main content included the introduction of freelancing, the need for the course, and the course contents. The reason for a 2-month course (2-days each week) was to not only give you the idea but also have a hands-on session which will be checked  providing you with instant feedback. The attendees will learn to make their profiles, identify their skill set, apply for jobs and master the tricks of the trade.
