One day Clay Workshop, NFAC

It s well said, “Arts is I, and Science is We”. When we talk about we, the work is distributed, like not a single scientist makes one thing completely, mostly there’s a team for that, but arts is what a person can say, I did it all myself. No offence to science or people related with it, because I am engineering student which is a science but honestly, before visiting SADA and mixing there, I had different opinion about them and now it is totally different.

It was one day workshop held on 7th January 2012, Saturday by the new developing society NUST FINE ARTS CLUB which is predicted to grow up soon to big Inshaa Allah. Being member, I received the email, and it was obviously a short notice. We were informed couple of days before but it’s okay, Because who has the spirited of arts can’t be stopped by the thing so called exam. Yes, it’s a true story. I have exam from 9th January, and I had to prepare for it, but for the arts, I could delay the preparation. That’s the real artistic behavior. It’s my personal review so it does not depict anything official from side of NFAC, so I am also writing my silly thoughts. Never mind, I am free to write whatever I like.

If I write as analyzer, not as member, then to be true, the workshop was amazing and it was more than I expected. The arrangements were sufficient, although we didn’t receive the free refreshment because the entry was free. So I can’t object that. But presence of amount of clay according to the number of people who actually attended the workshop was sufficient and I guess more than enough. The two men who were technically skilled enough to train us how to make clay and how to make things from it, were amazing. The timings of workshop, 12 to 4 pm was good. I am day scholar and I come from Pindi, but seriously it made no problem for me, so people can’t say that it would be difficult for the day scholars to come. And an important statement of life, “where there is a will there is a way.”

Some reviews of me being member are that when I reached there, I was so excited for my first day at NFAC, and I was excited to meet the good people. By good people I mean all of the members and executives. When I reached SADA, I was looking here and there, some guys were working on the projects, suddenly a man came and later he came to know that he was general secretary, named as Hassam Ali and came out to be really a good man. Common thing between us is that we both are from same college but different branches but that doesn’t matter because we are the Fazaians. Fazaians are friends no matter what the branch they do belong from. He leaded me to seminar hall. And when I reached there, I saw people sitting and few on stage, and I was thinking like WOW, its something that will mean a lot to me. I was 20 or 30 minutes late due to traffic. So they welcomed me warmly.  A lady holding mike called me on stage. I was thinking who she was but who cares, she is member of NFAC and she will obviously be nice. I wasn’t nervous at all because stage is my thing. That lady is actually president of NFAC I figured out later. And her name is Rehab Ahmed. And she is very active and enthusiastic person. And very nice meeting her too. But suddenly she said “we have punishment for you for coming late” and here I went confused. But my luck, it was a funny punishment. Just singing the song. And crowd started to pop up. Its been a long time I didn’t listen to song. But I tried to start “Delilah”, but forgot the lyrics. Then I told him, that I could do something else, they demanded parody of meera g. But I went for a parody of a Politian. So the punishment went over. I was released. I didn’t want to come off the stage but I had too. Then all the team started the ceremony and called the four executives on the stage. And introduced us. They are:-

  1. Rehab Ahmed, the president
  2. Hassam Ali, the general secretary
  3. Mariam Fatima, the press secretary
  4. Syeda Mahpara Farhat, the treasurer

They also introduced us to faculty advisor, Miss Bilqees. But we already knew here because she had taken our interview during the membership drive.

After intro, they played a small game with us. Game was that write two favorite movies names and fold them half and put it in bucket. It was mixed. Now we had to pick up two random chits and received 3 minutes to interact with others and find our own two chits. Certainly, I lost and few more. We were called on stage again. Now I was nervous that they will tell us to act the movie which we wrote. I am afraid I wrote Titanic. But thanks God, we just had to let Mariam take photo of us as we being losers.  Mariam was also photographer throughout.

Now without further wait, they then took us to workshop and we met the expert. And here the main thing started.

We first gathered in the room with a man in it who was know how to clay. There were 2 tables and clay, later it was extended to three tables. He taught us how to make clay and make things with it. Then we went outside a clay roller was there with expert and he helped and taught us to make vase etc with rolling machine clay. The rest of the time everyone got busy in making things with clay, and making friends with kindness. Time went by and interesting things started to sum up at drying table. And time was moving so fast. Then at near ending timings, there was a photo shoot for workshop outside the SADA, Mariam took the most of the photos. During workshop, one interested thing was, Mariam the press secretary took audio interview from few members. Concluding, that it was wonderful workshop, and to be honest, one of the best workshop in my life, because it was more than fun and I learned a lot from it and also it expanded my social circle.

Representing NFAC, I say that NFAC is very thankful to Allah, for such a great event went success. Being member, I would like to warmly congratulate and thanking NFAC for such a wonderful event.

After the successful end, I being the reporter of IR NUSTIAN took interview to executives. Their reviews are mentioned below:-

  1. Rehab, the president says:-

“I think that the workshop turned out to be a massive success. A good amount of members showed up which was very encouraging. They worked with a lot of passion and enthusiasm and enjoyed every moment of it. Looking forward for more fun Inshaa Allah.”

  1. Hassam Ali, general secretary says:-

“I think it was a great ice-breaking event for the NFAC and its members. The main idea of the workshop was to have fun while learning something different and that what we did! We plan to have much more bigger events ahead.”

  1. Mariam Fatima, the press secretary says:-

“Today was truly a great experience, lessons were learned, friends were made and hands were made dirty. To be honest, the success was unexpected and thus made us more confident. We will try our best to perfect ourselves and bring to you bigger and better events very soon in the coming future.”

  1. Syeda Mehpara Farhat, the treasure  says:-

“As the first workshop of NFAC, the clay workshop was great success. It helped to learn new things which none of the members already knew. Members participated with great enthusiasm. A large number of participants attended in-spite of the time for submission of final projects and final papers. Many more events are planned for the NFAC in coming semester.”
