Should One Study More During Exams ?

Well To be honest, it’s the other way round. One should keep his/her cool in exams. Surprisingly, I too agree with this ideology.

I still remember one of my teacher’s words in 10th grade that a good student studies during routine days and relaxes, sleeps in exam days. Today almost 6 years have passed and with every exam, I have found this notion to be correct that not studying during normal term/semester working days and leaving everything to last days really hurts a lot and does never depict the solid learning.
Whilst it’s true that there are not just few ample of cases that support the opposite i.e keep things to last moment. But if you honestly assess yourself if you have done this, you will learn that you maybe did get the good results and maybe more than who studied regularly, the major thing “learning” well might have been left out. That is your knowledge was on hold only till the exam and few days trailing it and then it diminished. Also one might wonder how can you keep a piece of knowledge for entire life when you have given it a time of maybe few minutes or just 1,2 times. That too for exam !

Why regular study with no results is preferable over last minute study with results ? Simply because you will never go into the depth of things, never look upon them with different angle, your critical thinking ability will never come into play.

We cannot totally blame ourselves for this habit though. At the end of day your grades/academic achievements mean a lot. Also they are benchmark for your productivity you have achieved for whatever was invested upon you. So it makes sense to run after results alone keeping other things aside.

Another reason why you should never study a lot during exams is that the clock needles that are usually slow to the death during regular classes, immediately start traveling with speed of light once you start preparing a lot of stuff in a given day. The reason we made it in school and college was that there used to be ample of preparatory leaves for each subject and we never had to be concerned about regular studying. However with the killer semester system, it simply doesn’t work in case you want learning + results.

So the strategy should always be that our confusions, doubts and key points learnt and memorized before exam and sleep for 1/3 of a day. Whatever you get in the end; good or bad, you’ll surely have feeling of learnt something deeply.
