SEECS has the tradition of arranging seminars on regular basis, to provide a forum where research scholars and industry leaders, SEECS faculty and students can present and share their research and experiences. And to create greater visibility for SEECS as a center for research in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering in Pakistan.
This particular seminar was arranged to help the final year students in applying for MS or PhD abroad. Following was the theme of seminar:
“Every university has a healthy number of students who proceed for higher education after their bachelor’s degrees. As a result, a natural ecosystem exists between more experienced students (in applications, GREs etc) and the upcoming ones, which facilitates the knowledge and experience transfer. At SEECS it has been noticed that this ecosystem does not exist. As a result, the students intending to go for higher studies are not getting proper guidance and this can cause loss of precious time after graduation. The idea of this seminar is to jump start the knowledge sharing process and help create that networking.”
The seminar was presented by three faculty members of SEECS including Mr. Shahid Razzaq (University of Washinton), Mr. Asad Ali Shah (University of Manchester) and Mr. Syed Akbar Mehdi .
Mr Mehdi did his Masters in CS from STANFORD UNIVERSITY, USA. So he was particularly asked some questions related to STANFORD. He told the students that people abraod don’t consider the GPA of our Universities. It can be a last factor to distinguish the students, but if you have a really good GPA, that will be an advantage to you. They filter the students initially, by reviewing their score in GRE and IELTS for American Universities and TOEFL or IELTS for Universities in UK. What comes next is your profile as an undergraduate research scholar and your achievements in extra curricular activities. And for MBA you should have work experience in good multinational company. Mr. Mehdi told the students that you can consult me personally. His email ID is <firstname.lastname@example.org>.
It was told that students can also go for consultants having good repute. They charge you accordingly and in return complete the whole process of application for you. The seminar was delivered using multiple slides shows. The main among them is attached herewith.
